Telford Community Tennis Club was formed in December 2009. From a group of people who had met together since 2007 on council run courts to receive tennis coaching sponsored by the” Barclays Spaces for Sports” programme, the idea of creating a community club was born.
The club’s primary aims are to enable anyone in the community regardless of age or ability to play club tennis, promote fitness and health, develop social interaction and responsibility in young people and to dispel the theory that belonging to a tennis club is expensive. We achieve these aims by offering a sound coaching and competitive programme and the opportunity to play social tennis at affordable membership fees, less than the equivalent of £1 per week for adults, less than £2 per week for families and a nominal fee for juniors.
Close links with Telford & Wrekin Council enables the Club to enjoy exclusive use of council run park courts across Telford at agreed times in a unique arrangement. Socially active on and off the court the club has designated club nights for adults, family sessions at the weekend and after school and school holiday sessions for juniors. Professional coaching is offered to members of all standards at a low cost by LTA approved coaches who hold current CRB’s and first aid certificates.
The Club is particularly committed to supporting all its junior members believing this is the solid foundation upon which to build its future. Fully affiliated to the Lawn Tennis Association the Club is represented by adult male, female and mixed doubles teams in the Shropshire Leagues, playing its home matches at Bowring Park, Wellington.
